A few weeks ago my friend Lexie got me hooked on Trusted House Sitters. And I made myself a goal, if we could house sit near Switzerland—and save some money for a few days—we’d go. I scouted and applied to loads of house sits (even though I did avoid horse sits, that seemed a bit too aggressive when I’m slightly terrified of horses) and ended up finding one outside of Geneva, Switzerland.
We spent three lovely nights in a farm house attempting to get a cat and a dog to like us, eating our meals in the garden, and sleeping in a proper bed after weeks in the van.
Goal accomplished, we explored some of Switzerland. Dancing at the free stages at Montreux Jazz Festival, hiking in Grindelwald, swimming in Interlaken. And yes Switzerland was more expensive when it came to camping and meals—even the camping tourist tax was more than the other countries we’d camped in—but also, so so beautiful and worth it.
If you’re interested in learning more about Trusted House Sitters, use my referral link! We got so lucky with Chris. He bought us a toll pass, leant us his parking pass, bought us Thai food and pastries, and made us dinner. I doubt we’ll get this lucky again. But it is a great way to see an area and not pay for housing. Bonus if they have a washer!
