We went into the barber shop cautiously.
Our free walking tour guide Ismael tells us when buying anything in Morocco we should go to a lot of places and gather prices and go back to the ones we like and negotiate.
It turns out that level of negotiation isn’t something H and I enjoy. And yet, H wants a haircut.
We enter the barbershop, ask the barber how much and he says, “how much you pay is how much” and motions for H to sit.
Ismael did not prepare us for that.
And if we know anything we know we need to get the price set before he starts shaving.
Us: “How much?”
Him: “Whatever you think.” Motioning to sit, getting clippers ready.
We say thanks, and run out.
When we get back to our Riad we ask the guy there how much a haircut would cost. “€3-5” and that a beard shave would be “€5-7”.
Armed with information we go back, agree on our price of €7, and H gets cut while I sit there and put my face in front of the man’s fan.

The next day we’re walking through the Medina when someone yells out, “Hey, Mustache!”
M: “did you hear that?”
H: “what?”
M: “people are calling you “mustache” to get your attention.”
H: “no…”
Ten minutes later
H: “people are calling me “mustache”…”
